It wasn’t until the early 1900s that Mother’s Day took the form we recognize today. Anna Jarvis, daughter of Anna Reeves Jarvis, lobbied Congress to set aside a day to honor the sacrifices mothers made to their children. She believed in her cause, creating petitions and garnering support, and in 1914 a proclamation was made to celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May.
