Since the very beginning, Thruway Center has focused on being a part of the greater community. Not only do the merchants provide convenient access for shopping, but the shopping center has played host to a wide variety of community events over the years, from dance parties outside the WTOB TV studios in the 1950s to visits from Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for kids at the holidays.

The creation of Community Day is just one more way for us to support the local community. Join us this year for the fifth annual Community Day on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event showcases the many nonprofits in our area by providing space for the organizations to set up, educate the community on their projects and reach out to gain more volunteers and support.

More than 20 organizations will have tables and displays along the sidewalks of Thruway Center, creating a fun, festival atmosphere to add to the shopping experience. From large nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity and Second Harvest Food Bank to smaller organizations such as the Piedmont Diaper Bank and the Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation (AARF), visitors to Thruway will learn more about all the different types of organizations doing good works each and every day in our community.

Being a part of Community Day is a great way for nonprofits to raise awareness as they work on goals of fundraising and outreach. It’s also a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about the many opportunities for giving back within our region.

Make plans now to come out to Thruway Center on June 2. You’re sure to find a new opportunity to be a part of the community and help others. By working together to improve the quality of life in our region, we help each other succeed.
